Website Traffic

Understanding the science of getting visitors to your site

You've designed your website, filled it with content, created products and service pages, appropriate links, and added color and graphics.  Then you waited for your customers to arrive...

You've had some hits but your traffic isn't what you'd like it to be.  What now?  Do you hire a professional to advise you, or pay for an expensive search engine optimization project?

In spite of the proliferation of search engine optimization experts and the race to be first on the search engine ranking list, the fact is that there are many factors affecting your website traffic.

In this book, we will talk about design, promotion, competition, content, keywords and, yes, even search engine optimization and ranking.

The idea is to look at your website as a storefront, and your face to the customer, and ensure that you present your site, products and services, in a way that will attract and KEEP website traffic.

One of the many things the worldwide web does well is to provide the opportunity for research.  Though small business owners fail to research and analyze the competition, you can learn a lot by visiting competitor websites.

Whether you consider a business to be a direct competitor or not, if they are doing something well, and their search engine rankings are high, try to figure out what they are doing and how you can learn from their presentation.

Unlike proprietary business plans and reports, competitor websites are public and with a bit of analysis, it is easy to see what they are doing to attract customers and traffic.

We will talk more about research and competition, and discuss web traffic monitoring, later in this book.
